Viona Esther (Leppanen) Hakala Obituary

With great sadness we announce the passing of Viona Esther Hakala on October 25, 2024 at the age of 96. Viona was born on January 21, 1928 in Marquette, Michigan to Toivo and Hilda Leppanen. She was the youngest of four children, with an older brother, Albert Leppanen, and two older sisters, Eleanor Leppanen and Evelyn Robertson.  Viona was the beloved wife of the late Alfred George Hakala, and the loving mother of Paul (Pamela Foreman), the late Anne (John Schilling), and Carole (Scott Heim). She was the proud and loving grandmother of Kylie, Jennifer and Jonathan, and great-grandmother to Jordan and Jaelyn. She was also a dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. 


A visitation and funeral will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Celebration Lutheran Church, 39375 Joy Road, Westland, MI 48185. Visitation will begin at 10 am, and the service will be at 11 am, with a luncheon to follow at the church.
