Thomas James McConaghie passed away on November 13, 2024, at the age of 87, in Novi, MI. Born on November 8, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan to Jack and Victoria McConaghie. Tom led a life filled with compassion, wisdom, and dedication to his work and loved ones.
Loving husband of Sharon for 52 ½ years. Cherished father of Elizabeth Ann. Devoted grampy of Charlie and Juliet. Beloved brother of the late Jack (Nancy) McConaghie. Cherished uncle of Karen, Cheryl, and John.
With a strong educational background, Tom pursued his passion in education and finance, earning a master’s degree in counseling and another in Education from Eastern Michigan University. He started his teaching career in Wayne, MI and then spent 35 years working for the Farmington Public Schools, at Cloverdale, William Grace as a teacher and then OE Dunckel Middle School as an assistant principal. In retirement Tom found joy being a financial advisor through Valic, impacting the lives of many in the Farmington area.
Tom's kindness and generosity touched the hearts of all those he encountered. His family, neighbors, colleagues and friends fondly remember him as a thoughtful man, always offering a helping hand and spreading positivity wherever he went. He was full of kindness, helping others whenever he could. Known for his gentle nature, a good friend aptly described him, "He was a gentleman and a Gentle Man!”
Tom's memory will forever live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed.
In honor of Tom's life and legacy, funeral services will be held at Hilltop Church of the Nazarene on November 25, 2024. The instate ceremony will commence at 10:30 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:30am and then lunch.
