Thomas Patrick Durack Jr. Obituary

Thomas Durack of Livonia, MI, passed away peacefully at his home on February 22, 2025 at the age of 86. He was born April 28, 1938 to Thomas and Mary (Wines) Durack. Beloved husband of Ann (Flynn) for 64 years. Loving father of Thomas Durack (Marlene Mrakovcic), Donna (John) Nehasil, Catherine (Bill) Garner, Loreen Durack (Tom Marlow), Susan Durack (Jerry Plenda), John Durack, and Mary Durack (Ethan Murray). Grandfather of Veronica and Elise Nehasil, and Gage and Wyatt Garner. Joined in heaven with his dear sisters, Sr. Mary Margaret Durack (IHM), Sr. Julia Durack (Maryknoll), Brigid Eileen Muldowney, and Sr. Anne Durack (IHM) along with many beloved family members and friends. He is also survived by his dear sisters-in-law, Rose Hassell and Joan (Duff) McKnight, and many nieces and nephews. Tom was a loving family man who devoted his life to his wife and children. He worked his entire career as a Salesman in Finance. He had a deep faith, and was an active parishioner of St. Colette Church in Livonia for many years. Tom was extremely proud of his Irish heritage, and looked forward to celebrating St. Patrick’s Day every year. He enjoyed the simple things in life: he loved to travel, he was an avid reader, a classic movie buff, a Tiger baseball fan, and was always eager to know what was on the menu for the next family gathering. He had a unique talent for zingy, hilarious one liners, a penchant for a funny story or a good joke. There were many a Christmas Eve where he could barely get through reading his traditional stories aloud before his laughter took over. Tom is now in God’s loving arms and we are grateful that his prolonged suffering has ended. For the last 18 years, Tom shouldered his health challenges with admirable strength and grace, never complaining, and always appreciative of those around him. He was the best trooper. He will be remembered with never ending love and gratitude. And, as he would often remark to his kids, “You know what your brother Tom would say……”

There will be a private burial service at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, MI. A memorial Mass will be held to celebrate Tom’s life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, in Tom’s name, to the IHM Motherhouse in Monroe, MI.
