It is with deep regret that we share the news of Steve Selinger's sudden passing on January 12, 2024.
Steve was an industrious engineer with extensive experience working at three prominent automotive companies in Detroit: General Motors, Volkswagen, and Nissan North America. He eventually rose to the position of Director at Nissan North America, showcasing his dedication and expertise in the field.
Steve lived a life filled with activity and adventure. He was always passionate about racing. In the 70’s he participated in amateur sports car races in the Midwest and beyond, driving a (Triumph) Spitfire. His love of racing drew him to sailing, competing in numerous Mackinaw races as well as cruising the Great Lakes where he experienced and enjoyed the beauty of the water. Steve was a member of the Lake Shore Sail Club and became Commodore in 2000. In addition, Steve was skilled in clay shooting hitting his targets with impressive accuracy. He was also a HAM radio operator since he was a teenager and continued to enjoy it throughout his life.
Fly fishing was a sport Steve loved, which brought him to the “holy waters” of the Au Sable River in Michigan where he enjoyed spending time fishing with friends. Steve also held an active membership in the Michigan Fly Fishing Club where he chaired the Dick Schott New Member’s outing at WaWaSum, served on the MFFC Board of Directors for many years, was a reliable volunteer at the Expo, and assisted in numerous Club events throughout the year.
Steve was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1947, and was a resident of Farmington Hills for more than 50 years. He is survived by his spouse, Barbara Selinger, sister Nancy Moses, and niece Lindsey Moses.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 19, 2024, at Mac and Ray’s, Harrison Twp, MI.
