Sara Joanne Marttila, age 26, passed away on July 1, 2021 in Royal Oak, Michigan. She was born on March 14, 1995 in Hancock, Michigan, daughter of Eric and the late Judith Marttila. She lived in Houghton, Michigan for the first several years of her life, before moving with her parents to the Detroit area in 1998. Sara graduated from Goodrich High School in 2013, and graduated from Baker College in 2018 with a degree in Criminal Justice. Sara was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
One of Sara's greatest loves was being with children, and she spent several years working at Build-A-Bear Workshop. For the past 18 months she was employed at Starbucks Corporation in Auburn Hills. Sara also loved to read, write, travel, and spend time with family and friends. Sara touched the lives of many people and she will be greatly missed.
Sara was preceded in death by her mother, Judith, and her paternal grandparents, Clarence and Joanne Marttila. Sara is survived by her father Eric with Maria, her brother Luke, her maternal grandparents, Charles and Audrey Lobbestael; aunts Christine (Casey) Kruse of Lesterville, South Dakota, Margaret (Toby) Wilen of Sturgis, South Dakota, Sara (Darin) Kysar of Yacolt, Washington, Jane (Paul) Peterson of La Center, Washington, Rachael (Trent) Raisanen of Newell, South Dakota, Christine Marttila of Hancock, Debbie (Christer) Peltomaa of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, and Rachel (Jerry) Homola of Battle Ground, Washington; uncles Paul (Brenda) Marttila of Atlantic Mine, Evan (Dawn) Marttila of Battle Ground, Washington, and Jon Marttila of Atlantic Mine. She also leaves behind many cousins and Christian friends.
Visitation Monday, July 5th 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, 34100 W. Eight Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI 48335.
Funeral Service Tuesday July 6th at 12 noon at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
