With great sadness and heavy hearts, we share that Richard John Savage, 78, of Farmington, passed away peacefully at home on August 14, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. 

Rich was born on February 13, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late August and Lorraine Savage. He grew up in Roseville, Michigan, as the eldest child in a big, loving family with six siblings: the late Marilyn (the late Joe) Gabriel, Cheryl (Mike) Wiita, Bob (Kim) Savage, Jim (Chris) Savage, Laurie (Mike) Kattleman, and Patti (Dave) Osborn. He is also survived by his brother and sister in-law Dave and Cindy Crorey along with many nieces and nephews.

Rich proudly served in the U.S. Army before returning home to run his business, East Side Vacuum, and married the love of his life, Christine (Crorey). Over 52 years of marriage, Rich and Chris built a life filled with love, warmth, and laughter for their three children-Karen (Jaime) Vinette, Jason (Sandy) Savage, and Jeffrey (Amanda) Savage-and seven grandchildren: Katie (Matt Fulks) Savage, Emily Savage, Alli Savage, Drew Savage, Avery Vinette, Payson Savage, and Brycen Savage.

Rich was the kind of man who made life easier simply by being around. Kind, easygoing, and always willing to help, he showed his love in practical ways-fixing things, building things, and showing up whenever someone needed him. If something needed doing, Rich was always nearby ready to lend a hand.

Rich had a lifelong love of sports and, depending on the season, could be found in a bowling alley or on a softball field. He was a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan and proudly showed it in what he wore. He shared his love of baseball with his sons through coaching and would have loved nothing more than to attend every one of his grandchildren's games over the years.

At home, Rich loved playing cards and believed family fun should include a little strategy, friendly competition, and perhaps a lesson or two in poker. Around the table, he gave his family laughter, memories, and the occasional reminder that Dad was not always going to let you win.

Rich faced a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, which in many ways took him from his family long before his passing. His family chooses to remember and celebrate the full and meaningful life he lived-the devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and all-around good guy who meant so much to so many.

Visitation will be held on Thursday August 20, 2026 at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home, 33603 Grand River Avenue, Farmington, MI 48335, from 3 pm to 8:30 pm. Please feel free to join us in wearing your favorite Tigers gear or colors in honor of Rich.

Funeral services will be held at the same location the following morning in-state at 10 am with services at 11 am, with a luncheon to follow.
