Richard Carleton Brodie

Richard was born September 17, 1928 in Almont, Michigan to Wilson and Rosa Brodie, The oldest of three sons.

He entered Heavens rest August 25, 2021.

Richard’s first eight years of school were at a one room country school. He graduated from Almont High School in 1946.

He served in the US Army Second Armored Division in 1951 and 1952 and was stationed in Germany for 16 months. He attained the rank of Corporal.

He attended Reppert’s School of Auctioneering in 1954 and in 1960 it became his full-time occupation, until his retirement.

He married LaVeta Fern Foust March 24, 1956. After 54 years of marriage LaVeta preceded him in death in 2010. Both of his brothers also preceded him in death.

Richard is survived by his children: Daniel (Melissa), Jane Farrington (Russell), Judith Byrd (William), and James (Christine); Grand Children April, Andrea, Michael, Elizabeth, Amber, Jessica, William, Lisa, Michael, Benjamin, Kelly, Britney, Adam and Alec. And many Great Grand Children. 

Richard accepted Christ as his Savior in 1964. Early 2017 he began leading one of the small group ministries at First Baptist Church of Farmington, where he was a member. He also has served the church in various capacities for many years.

Richard was a long time member of the National Auctioneers Association and the Michigan Auctioneers Association. He served as President of the Michigan Auctioneers Association in two separate terms. He was inducted into the Michigan Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame in 1995.

He enjoyed watching sports and certain Christian and Church Service Programs on television. He attended one of Billy Graham’s crusade services at the Pontiac Silverdome in 1976.
