Mary Ann Alina Korpela of Howell, Michigan, passed away at home surrounded by family on January 4, 2025 at the age of 74.
Mary Ann was born on March 23, 1950 to Elton and Evelyn (Muonio) Korpela in Detroit, Michigan, and was a lifelong member of the The Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. Her faith was most important to her, and she set a steadfast example for others with her simple believing.
At the age of 17, Mary Ann was seriously injured in an automobile accident. She accepted this trial, although she suffered many physical hardships and pain.
Faith, family, and friends were most important in her life. She was known for her loving, giving spirit, especially with children. Her nephews and nieces brought her a special joy, and she enjoyed the many trips she and her sister Lynne were able to take with their cousins and the nephews and nieces.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, as well as one great-nephew, John Justnes.
Mary Ann is survived by her sisters Lynne Korpela of Howell, Michigan, and Judy (Greg) Cichosz of Farmington Hills, Michigan, and brothers David (Kirsi) Korpela of Gaines, Michigan, and Alfred (Diana) Korpela of Rosemount, Minnesota, and her 16 nephews and nieces: Karen, John, Brian, Mark, Scott, Nellie, Alan, Todd, Molly, Paul, Kurt, Karl, Aaron, Blake, Kirsten, and Jamie, along with numerous great-nephews and nieces, many close cousins and a host of Christian friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 5:00-8:00 pm at The Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, 34100 W 8 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills, MI 48335. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 11:00 am (in state at 10:00 am) at The Old Apostolic Lutheran Church with procession to Glen Eden Memorial Park.
