Mark Joseph Lindsay
Dedicated Educator, Coach, Mentor, and Grandpa

Mark Joseph Lindsay, a lifelong educator, coach, and mentor, passed away surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Mark began his college journey at Albion College and went on to earn both his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Master’s Degree in Reading from Michigan State University.

For more than 30 years, Mark dedicated his professional life to Detroit Public Schools, where he served as a beloved computer teacher. He inspired countless students to explore technology, think creatively, and believe in their potential.

Mark is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Janis Lindsay; his stepsons, James and Jonathon, and Jonathon’s wife, Tama; and his adored granddaughters, Sanai and Emery. He is also survived by his brother, David Lindsay, and David’s daughters, Sarah and Chris, whom Mark cherished deeply. In addition, he leaves behind his goddaughters Katie, Jenny, and Jackie, along with a large extended family and many lifelong friends who meant the world to him.

Beyond the classroom, Mark was deeply committed to his community. He served as a coach and mentor with the Detroit Yankees Baseball Organization and volunteered with CCYA (Cass Corridor Youth Advocates), where he dedicated his time to guiding and encouraging young people. Many of those he coached and mentored credit Mark with helping them grow into confident and capable adults.

An avid skier and golfer, Mark lived with a sense of fun and discovery that made every day an adventure. He was a kid at heart, never losing his excitement for visiting toy stores and hobby shops to explore new gadgets and gizmos. His love of music was equally enduring, with favorites that included Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Roy Orbison, and many more.

Mark will be remembered for his generosity, humor, and lifelong dedication to helping others. His influence continues to live on through the countless students, athletes, friends, and family whose lives he touched.
