Larry I. Walter, of Farmington Hills, Michigan, passed away at home on June 25, 2026, at the age of 80. He was born on April 17, 1946, in San Mateo, California, to Harry and Wanda Walter.

Larry was the beloved husband of Janis for 57 years; loving father of Matthew, Stephen (Heather), and Carrie (Brian); and proud grandfather of Evelynne, Corrine, Vincent Walter, Christian, Emily, and Jacob McAndrews. He was the dear brother of Karen (Donald) Young and Diane (John) Hammond.

After graduating from Start High School in Toledo, Larry attended the University of Toledo, where he completed his degree in accounting and played football for the Rockets.  After graduation, he earned his CPA and began his career with the Internal Revenue Service.

In 1979, Larry and Janis moved their young family from Perrysburg, Ohio to Michigan, a move that was especially difficult for such a devoted Ohio State fan. "Go Bucks!" remained one of his favorite expressions.

An avid runner, Larry completed multiple marathons throughout his life, including the Boston Marathon.  He excelled at everything he put his mind to and was extremely goal oriented and creative.  Larry enjoyed woodworking and took great pride in creating special projects for family and friends. Over the years, he crafted everything from reindeer and clocks to crutches transformed into fish sculptures. Most recently, he built toy boxes for his beloved grandchildren.

Larry enjoyed baking pies, which he proudly called his “World Famous” pies. They were always a favorite at family gatherings and holidays.

Summers at the cottage were among Larry's favorite times. He was an avid golfer and always announced that he was “going to work” when he left for the course.  He loved teaching his grandchildren to fish on the same lake where he had taught his own children years before.  He proudly earned the title of "Captain" of his pontoon boat, lovingly named the "Luck E" after his wife.

Larry also had a lifelong love for dogs.  There was rarely a time in his life without a beloved dog by his side.

Many described Larry as a force of nature, and that is exactly what he was. He possessed an extraordinary zest for life and had a way of making everything better simply by being present. His quick wit, playful humor, big smile, and warm hugs made everyone feel welcome. He was strong, supportive, loving, and incredibly generous.

Larry was deeply loved by many and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
