Kenneth Calvin Heikka

Ken was born on August 22, 1929 in Baraga, Michigan and died January 28, 2022 in Howell.  He was preceded in death by his Wife, Darlene; his parents, and 9 siblings.He is survived by 2 daughters, Vicki Heikka Purcell (Jay), and Susan Carter ( Brian).  He was a loving father to the four of us.  Ken had 3 grand-daughters: Kara Jean Purcell Morin (Brian), Raija Nalepa (Paul), and Aliisa Carter. He was blessed with 2 great grand-children, Carter Curtis Esch and Maija Elaine Morin.

Ken was a hardworking, generous man who provided us with a stable, loving and secure home. He ensured that we did not struggle as he did,  growing up on a farm in Pelkie, Michigan during the depression.

Ken was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He also loved to bowl.  He and Darlene traveled extensively, visiting Finland several times and most of the 50 States. Ken retired from Ford Motor Company in 1994, where he had worked as a scale repairman. 

He was very involved in his church and lived his faith by volunteering in the community and serving on the church board.  

He was a dedicated Detroit sports fan.  He supported the Red Wings, Tigers, and yes, even the Lions, during their winning and losing seasons.  We enjoyed watching many games together. 

A celebration of his life will be held in Pinckney, Michigan on August 14, 2022.  Please email vhpurcell30@gmail.com if you are interested in attending.
