Jane Esther (Lehto) Lobbestael was born in North East, Maryland, one of Esko and Naimi
Lehto’s eight children. She grew up in Connecticut near Beach Pond, not far from the ocean she
loved. She attended the University of Connecticut before moving to Detroit, Michigan, where
she married Richard Joseph Lobbestael on June 15, 1963.
They lovingly raised eleven children in Rochester and Fenton, Michigan, teaching them the
doctrine of Jesus Christ, bringing them under the hearing of the word of God. Jane fulfilled her
dream of becoming an RN in 1987, graduating from Oakland Community College, bringing her
compassionate nature to patients in cardiac care.
Dick and Jane built their retirement home in Howell in 2019, and it brought her joy to be living by
the lake once again. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on March 4, 2022.
Grateful to have shared her life are her loving husband Richard and children David (Denise),
Cheryl (Scott) Jablonsky, Lisa (Shane) Anderson, Janice (Kevin) Homola, Michelle (Glen)
Macfarlane, Jeffrey (Pamela), Rodney (Kaisa), Karen (Roy) Marttinen, Lori (Rodney)
Hendrickson, Joy (Samuel) Scheuble, Andrea (Timothy) Kysar. She will also be missed by 75
grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 5 siblings and a host of Christian friends whose lives she
touched in her 78 years.
She was preceded by her mother Naimi Esther (Kannisto) Lehto, father Esko Victor Lehto, sister
May Upjohn, brother Kenneth Lehto and infant sister Sally.
Jane was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church and a firm believer in the doctrine
taught there.
