Jane Feiten Obituary

The French have an expression for how Jane Feiten (née Lennon) lived her life: joie de vivre. A lover of nature and the written word (you didn’t want to challenge her in Scrabble), an artist, a world traveler, an enthusiast for her Irish heritage, and an incomparably loving and generous wife and mother of nine, Jane seemed almost effortless in her ability to have fun and relish life, all the way into her 92nd and final year.

Born on October 9, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio, Jane lived most of her life in Farmington, Michigan. She was in the first graduating class of Mercy High School, where she was editor of her senior yearbook, and attended Mercy College. Her education also helped strengthen her unwavering faith in the Lord. She loved a good sunset, and often felt it was God saying, “Good night, I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Her love for God was surpassed only by her love for her family and friends. Among Jane’s own advice for the greatest gifts we can give another? Encouragement and acceptance. A great book. A generous heart. A fabulous dinner. Love and laughter. And time. Give the ones you love the gift of your attentive, thoughtful time.

Jane Feiten died on November 28, 2021, leaving us with the memory of an indomitable spirit. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jack; her daughter Nancy; and her sisters Marjorie Brown and Norah Inman. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her children, Kerry (Sue) Feiten, Dan (Leslie) Feiten, Carol (Don) Cervin, Maureen (the late David) Doran, Paul (Frank Coppola) Feiten, Janet (Paul) Gingell, Tom (Sabrina) Feiten, and Kathleen (Kevin) Anderson, as well as 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; her brother, Harry Lennon and her sister, Sheila Payton.

We’ll miss you, Jane—thank you for showing us the joy of living.
