Douglas William King

Douglas William King – Age 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, after a complication with a routine heart procedure. He was surrounded by family.

 Beloved husband of 62 years to Joyce, loving father of Carolyn (Kenneth) MacMillan, Marianne (Gregory) Williams, Stephanie Espinoza (Rich), and Adam (Jennifer) King. Cherished grandfather of Anna, Christina, Olivia, Alec, Alaina, and Colin. Brother to the late Donald King.

Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1937 the son of William and Eleanora King. Doug graduated from Detroit Redford High School in 1954. He received his undergraduate degree from Eastern Michigan University and his postgraduate degree from Wayne State University. He also served in the US Naval Reserve for 12 years.

Doug was an Assistant Principal at Dearborn Heights Crestwood High School for over 30 years. As the school disciplinarian he was known by his students as always being “Stern, but fair”.  Prior to this, he was a special education teacher at Hastens Jr. High School in Dearborn. An avid golfer, Doug served 10 years as President of the Michigan Publinx Seniors Golf Association (MPSGA) and has the King Cup Tournament of Champions competition named in his honor.

 Doug also had an early morning routine for years of dining at Greene's Hamburgers, almost daily, catching up with his circle of friends over coffee.

Doug had an infectious sense of humor, tenacity, and sarcasm which produced many memorable occasions, but the most important ones were those that proved he was a shining light that kept the King family together as a loving and devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather throughout his entire lifetime.

A memorial service will be held at the Thayer Rock Funeral Home, located in downtown Farmington, on September 12th, from 1-5pm. A special service is set for 4pm. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and kind messages from his former classmates, peers, students, and friends during their time of sorrow.
