Doris Jean O'Connell, of Farmington Hills, peacefully passed away on August 15, 2024 at the age of 93. She was born February 8, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to Walter and Ethel Taylor.
Loving mother of Michael (Maureen) O’Connell, William (Linda) O’Connell, Dennis (Jannell) O’Connell, Kathy (Dennis) Layer, and Christen O’Connell. Beloved grandma of Joe, Jamie (Cristy), Daniel, Billy (Christy), Scott (Elizabeth), Patrick (Jenni), Laurie (Dan), and Marlee and the best great-grandma of 12.
Doris touched the lives of many with her vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication. A loving wife to William for 62 years, she had the privilege of raising 5 wonderful children, leaving a legacy of love and strength. After her children had flown the nest, Doris embarked on a successful career as an executive recruiter in the human resources industry, proving her tenacity and sharp mind.
Despite her busy schedule, she always found time for her passions. Whether she was out on the golf course, enjoying a swim, or expressing herself through her beautiful paintings, Doris lived life to the fullest. Her dedication to family traditions, especially during Thanksgiving, brought everyone together and created cherished memories.
Throughout her life, Doris found fulfillment in helping those in need. From volunteering at hospitals to delivering meals for Meals on Wheels, her commitment to giving back was unwavering. Whether it was lending a hand at the church or supporting the American Red Cross, Doris always put others before herself, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. Doris and William found joy in exploring diverse cultures and destinations. She loved to travel, embarking on adventures across the United States and internationally, visiting countries like Ireland, England, Japan, and Mexico.
In reflecting on her life, we recall Doris' unwavering strength, her warm smile, and her love that knew no bounds. Doris may have left this world, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. In her honor, let us find comfort in the time we shared with her and the love she showered upon us. Her legacy will forever be a guiding light for us all.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 10 am until time of service at 12 pm at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home, 33603 Grand River Ave., Farmington, MI 48335.
