Dolores Kamunen, age 86, of Livonia, MI passed on June 24, 2024.
Dolores was the loving mother of Jenifer Kolis and Pamela Nonen, the late Jeffrey Nonen and the late Michael Nonen, and the beloved wife of the late Jacob Kamunen.
Dolores was a dear sister of Gerald (Karen) Beltry.
Dolores loved her four beautiful children and her family. She survived many of life's challenges.
Dolores loved to paint watercolors. She worked with an artist in Milford who was instrumental in teaching the art of painting as well as being a friend after Dolores' husband Jack passed away. Dolores also wrote poetry, being very literary and literate. Dolores could write in shorthand and was a secretary.
Dolores received a bachelor's degree from Wayne State University. Dolores worked for Shaw-Walker, a very prestigious office furniture company and was the only woman working in sales. She also cared for an aging friend, cleaned houses, and worked in collections. Dolores was later employed by the State of Michigan as a social worker helping people get aid from the State to help with their disabilities by building accommodations, such as wheelchair ramps.
Dolores was an avid reader of many books. She liked the author John Irving because his books are exceptionally funny, smart and interesting. She also had subscriptions to the magazines National Geographic and Architectural Digest for several decades.
After living in Detroit, she and her husband Jack built a home in Walled Lake. She designed her home and bought beautiful furniture. She loved Scandinavian design. She also gardened and loved flowers. When living in Detroit she had a membership to the Detroit Institute of Arts which allowed a member to select an original painting to hang in their own home each month. There was a "new" original painting hanging in their home every month or so for many years.
Dolores always kept an immaculately clean home even with having four active children in the house.
Dolores also loved to listen to music (and sing along too). Some of her favorites were Neil Sedaka, John Legend, and Michael Buble. Her favorite Neil Sedaka song was "The Immigrant," which always brought tears to her eyes.
Dolores was an excellent dancer. Her kids remember watching her and her partner perform intricate ballroom dance moves all over the Bob-Lo boat dance floor.
Dolores could be so much fun. She planned Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving dinners with her family. She loved to take photos when she was with her children on special occasions. She never forgot her friends, visiting them often. She was always there for her husband.
Dolores loved watching PBS, Public Broadcasting Services. A few of her favorites included "All Creatures Great and Small," the music specials, and especially the program "Nature." Her dream was to be a beneficiary to Public Broadcasting so that her name could be listed in the Beneficiaries of the program.
Dolores loved her dogs Holly and Jasmine. She took many, many, many photos of them, enjoying their company so much.
She also enjoyed watching tennis and golf on TV. She knew all of the players' names, and she especially liked to watch Tiger Woods and Roger Federer play.
Dolores was very kind hearted, especially to people in need.
She had an excellent eye for detail and got things done right, which is how her Dad and Mom did it too.
Dolores was a very beautiful person, inside and out. She will be missed.
