David L. Reed, 83, of Farmington Hills passed away Aug. 26, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lindsay (nee Bopp) Reed, and four children, Bryan Reed of Brighton MI, Laura Bowman of Northville MI, Courtney Reed-Tuczu of Oakridge NC, and Julie Reed of Northville MI. He is also survived by a brother, John L. Reed of Northville, as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Reed was retired after many years operating the Farmington Bike Shop on Orchard Lake Road, a family business for more than six decades. He was a “people person” who could talk with anyone, a talent that led to a loyal customer base serving families through multiple generations. It was always a joy for him to see passers-by on their bicycles with a silver Farmington Bike Shop sticker displayed on the frame.
Sunday dinner at a local restaurant was a ritual for Mr. Reed and his family, sometimes including ice cream afterward. Since his retirement, Mr. Reed enjoyed sitting with a cup of coffee in the morning and watching deer outside the family home. He was a student of history and a longtime subscriber to National Geographic Magazine, often passing along favorite issues to his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of the Masons and Shriners International.
Mr. Reed was cremated with arrangements made by Thayer-Rock Funeral Home in Farmington. A celebration of life is planned for springtime on Zukey Lake in Hamburg Township.
Donations in memory of Mr. Reed may be made to Free Bikes 4 Kidz Detroit (fb4kdetroit.org) or to Shriners Hospitals for Children (lovetotherescue.org)
