Betty Jean Degenhardt (nee Nowell) age 97 of Redford Township - formally of Brilliant, Ohio- passed away peacefully March 9, 2022.
She was born May 15, 1924 in Wheeling, West Virginia; Daughter of the late Horace and Mary Nowell (Maxwell)
Beloved wife of 66 years to the late Carl Degenhardt. Loving mother of Richard (the late Linda) Degenhardt. Cherished grandma of Lori (Michael) Anderson, Lisa (Bill) Ryan, and John DeWitt. Treasured great grandma of Chelsea (Christopher) Clay, Austin (Jessica) Ryan, and Matthew DeWitt. Dearest sister of the late Vivian Matthews. Aunt of the late Gary ‘Red’ Matthews & the late Cathy Law. She will be greatly missed by her nieces, nephews, and friends.
Passionate member of the Brilliant High School marching band where she played percussion and clarinet. Retired from K-Mart in 1986. She had a love of music, dancing and playing cards. She and Carl enjoyed traveling, camping and boating. She made everyone feel like family and was everyone’s grandma. Her cooking, especially her famous brownies, will be missed by all who knew her. Betty Jean loved spending time with her pride and joy- her family, who miss her immensely.
The Degenhardt family will receive guests Friday afternoon, March 18, from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home, Downtown Farmington.
