Mar 24, 1932 — Jan 13, 2021
Suzanne Estelle Hubbell Haas
24 March 1932 - 13 January 2021
Suzanne Haas, 88, of Commerce Township, is preceded in death by her parents, Rodney Lewis Hubbell and Bernice Belitz Hubbell; brother, Geoffrey Lewis Hubbell (Karen), son Terry Lee Haas (Susan), former husband, Donald Ray Haas (Carol), and companion, William Repper.
She is survived by her children, Jodi Rae Haas Kallgren and Kirk Alan Haas (Valerie); grandchildren Samantha Haas Angevine, Nicole Kallgren, Zachary Kallgren, Ian Haas, and Cole Haas; great-grandchildren Katelynn and Wyatt Angevine, niece Dana Hubbell Minzey, and nephew Rodney Hubbell.
Suzanne is also survived by Foster, Patches, Bella, Tia, Mac Tigger, Moe-Z and Noah.
Suzanne, known to her family and friends as Susie, was born in Howell, Michigan, and raised in the same and later in Detroit, Michigan. Susie is the great-granddaughter of Sardis F. Hubbell, first and three term mayor of Howell, Michigan, in Livingston County. Susie attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit where she studied fashion design, finishing her final year at Plymouth High School. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Donald Haas, she followed him to Ann Arbor while he finished his degree at U of M. Susie worked as a telephone operator in Ann Arbor until moving to Dearborn Heights, MI. Susie was an artist throughout her life, early on as a multimedia painter and later in the toys and small furniture she made for her children and then grandchildren.
Susie loved her family and her friendships with the symphony members that she spent twenty years with, as the spouse of a Detroit Symphony Orchestra trumpet player. Susie loved jazz and attended jazz concerts as long as she was able. Susie also loved Shakespeare and was a yearly visitor to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada.
But it was her love for all things cats that drove her designer's eye and home decorating.
Susie made friends easily and kept them for her lifetime. She can now spend eternity enjoying these friendships in heaven. "And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."
In lieu of flowers, Susie's family requests donation in her name be made to either an animal shelter or to the American Breast Cancer Foundation.
As Susie always said: "That's all I know, and it's not much."
God Speed, Lovely Suzanne.
