Robert H.
Miller, Jr.
Mar 22, 1925 — Mar 4, 2012
Age 86, of Farmington Hills, and Bradenton, Florida, died in Michigan on March 4, 2012. Bob was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on March 22, 1925, to Robert H. Miller, Sr. (1890-1975) and Helen McCormick Miller (1891-1985), recent immigrants from Scotland. He was raised in Detroit, where he graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1943.
A proud World War II Veteran, Bob served with the Army Artillery XIX Corps in Europe. After the war, he returned to Detroit and worked for Michigan Bell until his retirement. He married the former Shirley Carrington in Detroit on October 15, 1949. Bob and Shirley lived in Redford Township for nearly 50 years before they moved to Farmington Hills in 1999. Since 1995, they spent their winters in Bradenton.
Bob was an active member of the Plymouth Elks Club (PER) and the Bradenton Elks Club. He and Shirley loved to travel and were long time members of the Nomads Travel Club with whom they made many trips to Europe and to destinations in the USA. As a lover of sports cars, he was a member of the MG Car Club and, as a proud Scot, a member of the St. Andrews Society.
Bob and Shirley were also members of the First United Methodist Church of Farmington. A quiet man who was blessed with a loving family and a lifetime of good health, Bob lived his life with dignity, integrity and a lot of fun.
Besides Shirley, his beloved wife of over 62 years, Bob is survived by his children Bill (Pastor) Miller, David (Jean) Miller and Kathleen (Gene) Zieniewicz; grandsons Ian Miller, Andy Miller, Brian Miller, Matt Zieniewicz and Dave Zieniewicz; and brother-in-law Ian (Carol) Hunter. He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother Bill.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 9th from 3-8 p.m. at Thayer-Rock Funeral, Downtown Farmington. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 10th at 12 noon at the Plymouth Elks Lodge, 41700 Ann Arbor Road, Plymouth, MI 48170 with lunch immediately following. Interment will take place at a later date at Glen Eden Memorial Park Cemetery, Livonia, next to Bob's parents.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Bob's name to Michigan Elks Major Project, P.O. Box 1134, Big Rapids, MI 49307, for which Bob formerly served as executive director, which provides assistance to special needs children. Thank you.
