Obituary

Bob passed away peacefully on Sunday morning with family by his side, just weeks after the death of his loving wife of 69 years, Audrey C. Lemon. He will be missed by his beloved children: Kathleen Pawlik and her husband Bob; Robin McKenzie and her husband Jack; Thom Lemon and his wife Shirley; and Dawn Lemon and her husband David Richardson. Bob was loved by his grandchildren John (Becca), Katie and Joe (Alexia) Pawlik; Kyle (J. Nicole), Conor, Evan and Maura McKenzie; Myrtle Lemon; Morrin and Padraig McGunagle, as well as his great-grandchildren Fiona, Aine, Joshua, Lucas and Charlotte Pawlik. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Pearl Lemon, his sister Alice (Lowell) Garnsey,
and his brothers Lyle and Leonard Lemon. He is survived by his sisters-in-law Jean Lemon and Francis Herbert and many nieces and nephews.

Bob grew up in Ferndale and Detroit and graduated from Cass Technical High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, serving from 1942 to 1945. He was a B24 Liberator tail gunner with the 454th Heavy Bombardment Squadron, stationed at the San Giovani Air Base in Cerignola, Italy. After his discharge, Bob attended Lawrence Institute of Technology, where he was a member of the "Soaring Society." He graduated in 1949 with a degree in mechanical engineering and worked in the automotive industry until 1986. He was a man who could do everything!

Bob and Audrey married in 1947, and they moved with their family from Detroit to Farmington/Farmington Hills in 1957. He loved the outdoors and camping, and he passed this passion on to his children and grandchildren. The family fondly remembers decades of Lemon Family Fathers' Day camping weekends and his Sunday morning pancakes: The best in the world! An avid hunter of all wild game since his teenage years, Bob boasted that as of his last trip in 2013, he hadn't missed an opening day of deer season since
1947. As a long-time member of Multi-Lakes Conservation Association, Bob also enjoyed shooting skeet, trap and sporting clays. In retirement, Bob and Audrey spent time traveling across the country in their RV, seeing the sights and visiting old neighbors and friends.

We will continue to remember Dad's "personalized dictionary" with its entertaining spellings of words and names and their pronunciations. His "Bobisms" will stay with us forever. We thank him for our love of roasted Michigan corn and fresh tomatoes. Bob was one of the last of the Greatest Generation. Our hearts are warmed with the thought that Mom and Dad didn't have to spend much time apart.
