Obituary

Phil A. "Skip" Lasky, 79, of Farmington, Michigan, passed away on September 4, 2026, just weeks shy of his 80th birthday.

Skip lived the way he believed: a true Spartan at heart, he rose early, lived simply, and stayed active every day. Whether he was on the pickleball court or the golf course, volunteering, deep in a landscaping project, or taking on one of the countless jobs he did for family and friends, he was always moving, always working, and always willing to lend a hand. He spent many happy summers in Cedarville, Michigan, a place that suited his love of the outdoors.

A proud graduate of Michigan State University, Skip retired from a career at Detroit Diesel and carried the same hardworking Spartan spirit into everything he did. He was a hunter, a fisherman, a lumberjack at heart, a car enthusiast, and an avid golfer and pickleball player. He was perhaps best known for his sense of humor, his wit, and his tremendous work ethic.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Marian Lasky. He is survived by his sister, Jerry L. (Joseph D.) Reid; his brother, Charles L. Lasky; his nieces, Colleen Reid (Hongjin Choi), Cristin Reid (Brian English), and Brenna Lasky (Casey Waylen); and his nephew, Joseph D. Reid III (Kacee). He is also survived by his dear friend, Kathy Maczko.

Skip showed his love not always in words, but in the work of his hands: the projects finished, the wood chopped, the repair made and the countless acts of labor he performed for others. He was dearly loved by his siblings, nieces, and nephews, who will carry his memory forward. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, generosity, and a life lived on his own terms, right up to the end.

He will be deeply missed.
