Pauline I.
Moilanen
Jul 15, 1930 — Mar 30, 2012
Resident of Warren, MI.
Born July 15, 1930 in Paavola, MI.
Pauline was born and raised in Paavola, MI, and graduated from Hancock High School in 1948.
She retired in 1993 as a Teacher's Aide, from the Fitzgerald Public School System in Warren, MI.
Pauline was a member of Our Saviour Apostolic Lutheran Church in Northville, MI, previously known as the Apostolic Lutheran Church of Southfield, MI. As a devoted church kitchen volunteer, she made pasties at every opportunity and often provided Finnish pannu kakku or her famous orange cake! Always putting teachers on pedestals, she lived out her dream by assisting students in various classrooms as a teacher's aide once her own children were older. Then, a favorite pastime became working with her long-awaited grandchildren as preschoolers on educational craft projects. She'd babysit or offer a sleepover at the drop of a hat.
Evening and early morning walks became a ritual later in her life, a chance to enjoy the outdoors and listen to birds singing. "Faith" and "Hope" were her backyard cardinal friends. She always loved food-often wishing delicious meals would "never end"--and was especially fond of picnics. Crocheting and knitting relaxed her, as did hot saunas. An excellent seamstress, she often did alterations at home while her children were young. She also had a heart for the elderly, visiting often with homemade nisua or bread. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She cherished spending time with friends and family, especially when they'd sing or play instruments for her. She loved her hymns-especially "Amazing Grace"--and year-round Christmas carols. Special blessings over the years included vacations with her husband and children-even to Hawaii, Finland, Alaska and on a 50th anniversary cruise!
Pauline was the beloved wife of Walter Y. Moilanen, who lovingly remained at her side, patiently caring for her for many years during her illness. They celebrated their 61st anniversary Dec. 23, 2011.
Loving mother of Cheryll Odendahl, Sterling Heights, MI (Rich Odendahl);
Paul Moilanen, Rolling Hills Estates, CA (Mary Ann Pascua); and
Kathy Ann Moilanen, Ann Arbor, MI (Ed Vuylsteke).
Devoted grandmother of Gabrielle, Joanna and Stephanie Vuylsteke.
Dear sister "sisko" of Betty Ruohonen of Oskar Bay near Houghton, MI.
Beloved aunt to many close nieces and nephews.
