Leon "Leemo"
Melazzo, Jr.
Jun 15, 1925 — Oct 23, 2020
Lee Melazzo of Farmington passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 23, 2020 at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his parents Daisy and Leon Melazzo, sister Mary Margaret (Richard), and wife Shirley - the love of his life who he was married to for 65 ½ years.
He is survived by his children Christine Moore (Robert), Beth Spirko (Milan) and Janet Nagrant (Stephen); grandchildren Jason Spirko (Cathi), Shannon Eubank (Daniel), Rachel Mineo (Mike), Alex Mikla, (fiancée Sarah), Stephen Nagrant, Jr. (fiancée Karisa), Vanessa Arroyo (Mark), Rebecca Nagrant; and great-grandchildren Andrej, Nathanael, Sophia, Laney, Audrey, Lucas, and Grant.
LeeMo, as he liked to be called, was an avid golfer and loved sports of all kinds, especially football. If he wasn't watching sports, you could often find him watching old war movies or telling Alexa to "play Frank Sinatra on the radio." He loved spending time with his family including Wednesday night dinners and drinking slivovitz as a tradition at family gatherings.
He had a lengthy career as a Supervisor at Ford Parts and Service Division. After 35 years there, LeeMo retired but continued working for another 15 years as a sales rep for Morgantown Mfg. He was not one to slow down and remained active throughout his life. He took up another hobby as a business partner at the Bench Pub in Livonia with "the son he never had" Jeff Garvin. He loved going to the Bench daily to open the doors and talk to all the regulars.
After retirement, LeeMo spent his winters in Florida with Shirley where he was president of his condo association, and spent most of his free time golfing, going on walks, and betting on horses at the racetrack. In his later years, he enjoyed sharing many stories including the time he spent in the Navy stationed in Kodiak, Alaska; meeting and falling in love with Shirley at Cleary College; and even some silly stories about his childhood as an Italian-American growing up in Detroit. He was always a great storyteller and will be remembered for his big personality. He was one fun guy to be around and is greatly loved and will be missed every day.
Private services for LeeMo have been held.
