Marge Hamina passed away peacefully on June 16, 2021, and went to be with the Lord. She was born Laina M. Pelto on May 21, 1933 in Detroit. Marge was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, and sister.

Marge graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit and worked at University of Detroit. She married Karl Hamina Il in 1955, and they began their life together living first in Detroit, and later in Livonia, Portland, Oregon, and Massachusetts. They finally came home and settled in Farmington, Michigan.

Marge was active in the Antioch Lutheran Church and worked for the League of Women's Voters. She was a member of the Finnish Cultural Center. She was immensely proud of her Finnish heritage and traveled to Finland in 1994.

She was a devout and faithful Christian who shared her faith lovingly with everyone. Many people reached out to Marge to ask for prayers, and she was always happy and willing to lift those who needed prayer.

Marge is survived by her three children: Carolyn (Dan) Dreyer, Beth (Roy) Tinsley, and Karl (Debbie) Hamina. She leaves behind seven adoring grandchildren: Daniel (Ashley) Dreyer, Nicole (Jeremey) Mitchell, Katie Dreyer (Chris) Landfair, Alison Tinsley, Nicole (Beau) Felix, Karl Hamina IV, and Matt Hamina. Marge also is great grandmother to seven beautiful children: Lena, Olivia, Grant, Jack, Lennon, Reese, and Whitley.

Marge spent her last years at the Westlake Assisted Living facility in Commerce, Michigan. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Westlake staff for the kindness, the compassion, and the love that Marge received while in their care.

Her Funeral Service will be held at Thayer Rock Funeral Home in Farmington on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. Visitation is from 11 to 3, followed by a service and then a luncheon at the Finnish Cultural Center in Farmington. Burial will be Thursday. Please click here for the livestream of the service.
