Josephine Mary
Cervin
Aug 6, 1924 — May 15, 2016
Josephine Mary Pollaccia Cervin passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 15, 2016 at Beaumont Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan with her family by her side.
She was born to Lena and Anthony Pollaccia on August 6, 1924 in Los Angeles, California. The family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and then to Detroit, Michigan.
Josephine graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit, Michigan where she became lifetime friends in a club of 11 other women. She was saddened last year when the last of the other 10 women passed.
She maintained close relationships with her 3 sisters, Mary De Long, Nina (John) Foster and Carol (Warren Davis) Meyer.
In 1948, she married Ronald Cervin and raised 4 children, Connie Cervin, Ron (Noelene) Cervin, Don (Carol) Cervin and Kris (Jim) Wrobel in Farmington Hills, Michigan. She was a grandmother of 7: Annie Cervin, Mary Kate Cervin, Scott Cervin, Brian Cervin, Jonathan Cervin, Alex Wrobel and Rachel Wrobel. She was a great-grandmother of 4: Ryder Cervin, Gannon Cervin, Mia Cervin and Aria Cervin.
Jo was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church for 66 years. She worked as a secretary at the Rectory and served on the Altar Society. After retiring, she regularly attended Bible Study classes.
Jo worked as an administrative assistant at Bergeron and Bratton Construction and Century Truss.
She greatly enjoyed her home of 66 years in Farmington Hills, Michigan where she fed and watched birds, squirrels and deer in her backyard. She hosted many dinners with family and friends, serving her renowned spaghetti with meatballs.
Jo loved to garden and chat with her neighbors and friends who became like a family to her. She remembered birthdays and special occasions with cards and wrote wonderfully warm letters.
Jo was known for her upbeat, "Never Say No" attitude and was always open to a new adventure or meeting new friends. Since 3 of her children lived out of the state, Jo was generously included in the Feiten's festivities. An early riser, Jo often napped amidst the music and chatter of parties. Over the years this was affectionately called, "Pulling a Jo".
When she retired, she joined a travel group called the Nomads and a splinter group, "The Gutsy Grandmas" and journeyed around the world. In later years "The Gutsy Grandmas" settled for movies, theater, lunch, cards and the arts.
Jo kept fit by playing golf and exercising at the Costick Center in Farmington.
Jo was a very special person who was open minded, fun loving and always energetic. She lived an exceptionally full and well-balanced life surrounded by her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
