Age 84, of Farmington Hills, Michigan and Carillon Beach, Florida passed away at Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Joan, the daughter of Laurence Robert Muir, Sr and Josephine Legat Muir, was born February 16, 1928 in Spring Valley, IL. She graduated from Hall Township High School and married her high school sweetheart, William T. Smith June 18, 1949.

Joan is survived by her husband and their five children, Maralee Karwoski (John) of Spokane, WA, William G. Smith (Patsy), of Milford, MI, Nancy J. Smith-Hefner (Bob) of Newton, MA , Gregory L. Smith (Donna) of Renton, WA and Scott Smith (Sharon) of Novi, MI. She also leaves behind 12 wonderful grandchildren, 8 wonderful great grandchildren and a brother Jack Muir (Irene) of Gilman, IL. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother Larry Muir.

Prior to her marriage, Joan was a bank teller and after raising her children, she worked for 20 years with her husband, for the Executive Benefit Plans Company. Joan was a bright, happy, loyal, loving wife, mother and friend.

Visitation will be on Friday from 2-9 p.m. at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home and Joan's Funeral service will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Farmington 32112 Grand River Ave, Farmington.
