Betty, as she was known, was a 1952 graduate of Immaculata High School in Detroit. She married her sweetheart in 1954 and they started a family in the Detroit suburbs, where all 7 of their children were born. In 1969, the family relocated to the Eastern Upper Peninsula, where Betty saw many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren born over the next 40 years. Also during that time, she was active as a member of the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary, and worked several jobs, including as an industrial seamstress. She was an avid reader, loved Sudoku, Video Poker, and traveling.
Betty retired in the late 1990s, and eventually moved back to the Detroit area in 2009 where she lived with her youngest son and his spouse. She traveled often to visit her other children and grandchildren throughout Michigan and Florida. Family was at the center of her life, and she was affectionately known by her family as "the Matriarch."
Services will be held on Wednesday, February 11, at Metropolitan Community Church of Detroit, 2441 Pinecrest, Ferndale, MI 48220. The family will be receiving visitors there from 12pm - 2pm, with a memorial service officiated by Rev. Deb Dysert beginning at 2:00 pm. A dessert reception will follow in the social hall.
Please keep Betty's family in prayer at this time
