Obituary

Barbara Ann Tiura passed away on May 1, 2008, at her home in Farmington Hills. She was born in Detroit on October 13, 1943, to Frans Rudolph and Mary Tiura, and was raised in Southfield, Michigan.
She graduated from Western Michigan University in 1965 with a degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduating, she accepted a teaching position in the East Ramapo School District, New York, where she taught 6th grade for 34 years, at both Grandville and Lime Kiln Elementary Schools.

Barbara was a dedicated educator who took great care with the children whose lives she helped shape. She spent many extra hours creating a comprehensive learning environment for the students in her classroom, knowing that they would soon be entering middle school, where they would face many social and educational challenges. Her proudest moments occurred when she would hear about the accomplishments of her former students and know that her efforts played a role in their successes. She retired from teaching in 1999, and then returned to Michigan to care for her mother, who passed away in June 2007, at the age of 89. An avid sports fan, Barb enjoyed being back in Michigan to watch her favorite teams, especially the Detroit Tigers, compete on the playing field.

Dear sister of Robert (Karen) Tiura. Cherished aunt of James (Angela) Tiura and Lauren (Jeffrey) Tarkiewicz. She also leaves many cousins and close friends, both in Michigan and New York who will miss her dearly.
