Anna (Anneliese) Elizabeth Bockler was born at 10:45 AM in Frankfurt am Main Griesheim on February 20, 1929. She was the only child of Katharina Richter and Franz Josef Bockler. Anna began her formative schooling at the Mozartschule in Griesheim in 1935. Then she attended secondary school at the Waldschule (Aufbauschule) until 1945. During World War II, the Bockler family had to stay in the countryside in Lola von Giesen for protection from air raids. From 1944 to 1945, all schools in Frankfurt were closed and schoolchildren and families were evacuated to distant refuges. While in shelter, the Bocklers were bombed out from the Waldschule Strasse, where they resided, gathered their belongings and fled to Lola. From 1945 to 1947, Anna studied at the Kaufmannische Berufschule. During that time, she did her externship at the Mitteldeutsche Creditbank in Frankfurt to obtain her community college equivalency in banking and finance. Due to Anna's industriousness, she was promoted to the Personnel Office at the Creditbank and was very much loved.
Anna arrived in the United States with Parents Katharina and Franz in 1951 and settled in a bungalow that was built by Katharina's elder brother, John Richter, on Stahelin Street in the West Side of Detroit. She worked as a financial secretary in the Penobscot Building downtown Detroit and then as a travel agent for the Emil Leidich Agency. In 1956, Anna booked a trip for a young German man named Victor, who later became acquainted with her and both of them fell in love and got married in 1957. The young couple moved down the street on Stahelin in another bungalow built by Uncle John. Anna stopped her career to raise a family and become a homemaker. Daughter Vickie Ann was born in 1958 and Son Philip Frank in 1964. Anna enjoyed her spacious home on Stahelin while her children spend their early years in the Detroit Public Schools. Anna and Victor were supportive parents to their children, active in the PTA, and with extracurricular programming. In 1970, Anna, Victor and children moved out to Farmington Township (now Farmington Hills) on a beautiful property with rolling hills and apple trees, remnants of old apple orchards. After the children were in college, Anna attended Oakland Community College and took classes in the social sciences. She also worked as a part-time assistant in a mental health clinic and saved someone's life from suicide by telephone intervention.
Anna enjoyed singing in choirs, namely with the Finnish American Singers of Michigan, accompanied by her husband Victor since 1984, and then with Vickie, in addition, in 1993. The choir toured around the United States, performing at Finn Fests. Anna also enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends, and sold German tortes in Farmington Hills. Anna also loved to knit, crochet and sew. She joined the American Sewing Guild and the Bishop Teachers' Association and served as treasurer. She was also active in the Farmington Musicale as a support person for sewing and refreshments. Late in her life she formed the Knitting and Crocheting Social Group at the Farmington Family YMCA with Vickie. The ladies in the group made several accessories and toys which were sold to raise money for the Strong Kids (Annual) Campaign at the YMCA, a group that provides scholarship money for needy families which otherwise could not enjoy the amenities of a local YMCA.
In 2013 Anna was beginning to present challenges with health, namely arthritis of spine and cardiac pathologies, and was admitted to Providence Hospital-Novi and Southfield. She was released months later and went into Henry Ford Hospice at the Marvin and Betty Danto Health Care Center that May. Anna resolved her lower extremity edema and lost a healthy amount of weight. Wonderful days were spent at Danto; family and friends frequently came to visit Anna in this excellent skilled nursing facility. In March 2014, Anna graduated from the Hospice program, and, in May 2014, began to walk again with assistance after over one year of being completely non-ambulatory. After two challenges with pneumonia and the final bout complicated with cardiac shock, Anna passed away, comfort adjusted by the medical team, and surrounded by family members at the Cardiovascular ICU at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit on September 22, 2014 at 5:45 AM.
